$10 Bet - Harvest Moon

September 23rd, 2008 | Category: 10 Dollar Bet, Samm

Another Tuesday…Another retro 10db…

There really isn’t anything overly exciting to do during our Winnipeg winters.  For most people, it’s too cold outside to spend too much time outdoors, but there really aren’t too many places one can go to be entertained around here.  March of 2007, Jay and I decided to go on a tour of some of the small towns in Manitoba.  We hit up Selkirk, Beasejour (my “hometown”), and Garson.  We ended up having dinner at a small restaurant in Garson named “Harvest Moon”.  I had been there several times before, but had never really paid much attention to the artwork adorning the walls of the restroom.  This time, however, a certain piece of original art caught my eye: a poem depicting an Autumn scene that is quite typical to the Manitoba prairies.  “How beautiful,” I thought to myself as I spent an extra couple minutes in the bathroom to memorize the poem, “I bet the waiter’s never had anyone recite this poem to him before…”

$10 Bet - Dishwasher

September 16th, 2008 | Category: 10 Dollar Bet, Jay

It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means! 10DB Tuesday! In case you forgot we’ll be re-releasing our classic 10DBs each week, or at least we’ll try to release one each week.

So here’s this weeks installment 10DB.

It was a brisk Saturday morning and a great day to go Dragon boating. My work puts in a Dragon Boat team each year for the Annual Manitoba Dragon Boat Festival. It was my first time paddling and our first day of competition. Samm, as well as a few other friends, came to cheer me on that day. Little did he know what was in store for him just a couple hours later. My team raced and did alright, but racing wasn’t the highlight of the day for me. The races ended fairly early and it was just before noon so we decided to get something to eat. Having the competition at The Forks Market was great because it was close to many restaurants. We decided to go to The Original Pancake House. We ate, laughed and enjoyed each others company, good times were had by all. Oh, did I forget to mention the part about the 10DB? Well, you can watch what happened directly below. Again, sorry for the giddy laughter… I couldn’t contain myself.

$10 Bet - Orange

September 09th, 2008 | Category: 10 Dollar Bet, Samm

So it turns out that I’m a pretty slow learner.  Like the previous bet I’d come up with, this one turned out to be more weak sauce than steak sauce (you know? like…A1).

I had been shopping around in a dollar store, when a little display shelf caught my eye.  Spray-on hair dye.  Apparently at the time, it never occurred to me that applying spray-on dye to black hair wouldn’t work very well.  So, I got Jay to use the orange dye on his hair prior to a softball game, and play the entire game with his hair dyed slightly orange.  Weak sauce.  I know.

$10 Bet - Spoon

September 01st, 2008 | Category: 10 Dollar Bet, Jay

Spoon, as UrbanDictionary defines it, is the act of cuddling where the back is facing the chest and the couple are laying on their sides.

Now that we have that clarified, let’s take it back a couple of years ago. My church was having a mini camping retreat and so I invited a bunch of my friends. Prior to the retreat we were making arrangements on who would bring tents and who would be tenting with whom. I think there was mention of some people being afraid of waking up next to someone spooning them, which gave me the idea for the next bet. Here’s a play-by-play of what went on.

J: Samm, 10 bucks if you wake up at 4:03am and spoon with Rich
S: Are you serious?!
J: Yep, I’ll set my alarm.

J: Samm… wake up, it’s 4:03!
S: ugghhh… I can’t believe you’re making me do this!
J: haha.. 10 bucks!
S: I don’t even know what spooning is!!
J: *making hand gestures imitating spooning action*
S: This is soo stupid!

4:12am
J: Where’s Rich’s tent?!
S: I don’t know
J: I think this is his.
*tries to peek into tent*
hmm.. maybe not.
S: Too bad, I’m going to go back to sleep

4:14am
J: Okay, new bet. 10 bucks if you spoon between Renzie and Don

4:18am

*Note Renzie trying to snuggle in closer to Samm
